Verizon Service Options

(Learn more about where EV-DO coverage is offered.) The V Cast Music service enables you to download songs instantly to your phone, or buy music through your PC and transfer the files to your phone. If bought from your phone, you’ll hear two copies of the song: a Windows Media Audio Pro Plus format at 64Kbps stereo is sent to your phone, and a Windows Media Audio 9 format at 160Kbps stereo is sent to your account in the V CAST Music online store for downloading to your PC. V Cast Music offers nearly 2 million songs, with more being added all the time.
With the V Cast Video service, you can stream or download video clips to your phone from a variety of news, entertainment, sports, and weather channels, including CNN, ABC News, E!, CBS Sports, The Weather Channel, and VH1.
Getting on the Internet is simple using Verizon’s Mobile Web 2.0 package, which allows you to read and send e-mails, chat instant messages and view your pet web content on your phone. Verizon’s Get It Now wireless download service is also fully well-matched with this phone. This pay-per-download service features attention downloads, games and productivity tools. You can also personalize your handset with ringtone downloads using the Get It Now service.
With this GPS-enabled phone, you’ll be able to access Verizon’s VZ Route-finder service (additional charges applicable) for voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions, heads-up alerts, local search of nearly 14 million points of interest in the US (such as landmarks, restaurants and ATMs), and detailed color maps.
Phone Features
Nicely compact, the LG Venus measures just 0.62 inches thin and weighs a svelte 3.79 ounces. |
The face of the Venus slider includes two LCD screens, with the top 2-inch screen providing a 240 x 320-pixel QVGA resolution and support for 262K colors. The lower screen (1.49 inches, 176 x 240 pixels) displays touch-sensitive navigation controls with different layouts depending on the attention you’re accessing–such as changing from ordinary soft key layout to music controls when the digital audio player is activated. LG has incorporated haptics technology–an boundary that makes tactile feedback–that provides vibrating feedback in response to your fiddle with taps when using the touchscreen. The Venus offers gently curved corners and a faux-leather covering on the back that provides a luxurious feel in the hand as well as added grip.
It has a 64 MB internal memory, and it’s expandable via optional MicroSD memory cards with support for up to 8 GB of storage. The digital audio player is well-matched with MP3, WMA, and AAC/AAC+ music files, and you can multitask with other phone functions while continuing to play music. Other music playback functions contain a variety of equalizer presets, shuffle and repeat mode, and an airplane mode that turns off the cell phone’s receiver for continued playback while on a running away.
This phone also provides Bluetooth version 1.2 wireless connectivity with the A2DP Bluetooth profile, which enables you to stream music to well-matched Bluetooth stereo headphones or speakers. (Note that the airplane mode doesn’t shut off the Bluetooth connectivity, so you can still listen to music using wireless headphones.) It also includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, dial-up networking, audio/video remote control, phone book access, series port/object push for vCard, and basic imaging for sending/printing non-protected images to a well-matched device.
The 2.0-megapixel camera can capture still images in four resolutions (1600 x 1200, 1280 x 960, 640 x 480, and 320 x 240 pixels) and video in two settings (VGA 320 x 240 and QCIF 176 x 144). Other camera features contain a 2x zoom, white balance settings, a variety of color effects, night mode, self timer, and three shutter sounds (with silent option). Video recording is limited to any 30 seconds for sending via MMS or up to an hour for saving to memory card.
The Venus provides storage for up to 1000 contact entries, with up to 5 numbers, two email addresses per entry, and Picture ID. Support is built in for text messaging and mobile IM. Wouldn’t it be nice to have an iphone but at one third the cost? Yeah, that’s what I thought too. Unfortunately, the LG Venus certainly isn’t that.
First of all, why would a phone billing itself as a music phone NOT use a 3.5 (ordinary) mm headphone jack? You cannot find high quality 2.5 mm headphones anywhere and adapters aren’t tiny–defeating any purpose of having a smallish mp3 player. Maybe it’s because they want you to buy their bluetooth headseat. Unfortunately again, that too is wildly dreadful–broadcast 20 feet away can hear every word that comes out of them, even when the headseat is on your head.
Infer magically there were excellent 2.5 mm headphones, what then? Well you’d have to deal with the irritatingly slower playback of the songs than they’re supposed to run. It’s a bit subtle at times, but the songs are certainly slower–using a micro SD card or the phone’s own memory.
You can get small album art images during playback, but I’d rather the song signal the way it’s supposed to.
The phone itself works decently. It’s small and nice looking but the touch sensors react correctly only about 75% of the time, which is really pretty terrible if you reckon about it. Graphics are fantastic, the camera isn’t. Other than the touch screen, there’s nothing new about this phone and there certainly isn’t anything wonderful.
Please, save your money and pass this info along. I’m returning mine and likely switching to a phone company that provides its customers with better phones.

Bought one new from Verizon. Had to have the battery replaced after a few months followed by three replacement phones in one year. Not too impressed.

I like about 98% of all of the functionality of this phone. I had about 1 day left before I could chat this Venus for the Voyager. So I went into the Verizon and questioned for the manager. He took me directly to the Voyager so we could compare apples to apples. We went through all of the features that I used on my phone and mutually agreed that the right phone for me was the Venus.
Voyager has problems multi-tasking where the Venus had no problem with what I would be using. I had to spend way too much time opening the Voyager to access the keyboard. Time I didn’t have spend opening the Venus.
Yes, there are some minor problems with the accessibility of the volume control and the lock/unlock feature, but not that serious. Slider works very well and seems very well built to dodge breakage. The camera takes very nice pictures and I like the camera controls. When you want to take a picture, you open the slider, hit camera button and
the screen flips 90 degrees so that it feels and looks just like a camera.
I really play a Verizon $6.95 WSOP Texas Hold’em game that I downloaded and there is no treatment fee. I have played some tournaments and cash tables and do quite well, but this small game is an awesome challenge. The larger you set the blinds, the more hard the players. Nice challenge.
The screen has held up very well with not one scratch. I bought a $9.95 Samsonite leather belt clip holder from WalMart and it works fantastic. It rotates 360 degrees and the phone stays nice and safe and very simple to access without worrying about the phone falling out.
