Ever in view of the fact that mobile phones first hit the world stage, they been proving themselves as absolutely essential communication tools. From the 80’s where they wielded purely by broadcast like Delboy and yuppie series killers like Patrick Bateman, up to the modern day where everyone and their dog’s got one. It’s hard to reckon of any communication medium that has been so widely usual, and taken into so many broadcast’s hearts. The world’s certainly changed from the world of nineteen-eighty-whatever, with mobile phones just used as the ultimate posing accessory for Thatcherite Yuppie Scum the world over. Now, broadcast carry more than one phone, broadcast sleep with their phones on the cabinet next to them, broadcast even use them while going to the loo. If any technology can be seen as being perceived as essential, it’s the mobile phone.

The other huge technology has been broadband internet access, and with this one, it’s become even more essential! Question anyone who remembers the terrible ancient days of the internet, who remembers dialup, down your phone line. And not being able to use the phone when you were online. And getting a slower connection speed than an arthritic, and possibly dead, snail. Broadband freed us from all that, giving us quick, simple access to the internet. And it changed the way we use the internet, forever!

What will the possibility bring us? Well, imagine the possibility is a fantastic huge stick (go with me on this). What the possibility will do… well, ok, what is by now happening is that the huge stick is stirring mobile phones and broadband together, to make the wonder that is mobile broadband. It should be really rather obvious from the name but what that is, is broadband internet access. When you’re out and about, as it’s really mobile. So, you just plug a USB Modem into your laptop (or buy one of the increasing number of mini-handheld-PC’s that will let you do mobile broadband if you haven’t got a laptop), wait about 2 minutes, while it installs itself, and you’re ready to surf. No messing about, no waiting for your broadband line to go live, no wires tying you to your desk. It’s, quite simply, the possibility. And it’s also, equally simply, incredible!
