I know a lot of broadcast buy this cable to fix problems with Seagate 7200.11 hard drives. If you are, be precise.
First it is an authentic 5 wire cable, instead of the knock-off that uses 3 wires which is shown in most of the demonstrations on how to wire it for series comms to the hard handbook..
This means you will have to spend time figuring out what wire does what.
Also, because it is the authentic cable, both ends are just about impossible to peel back w/o destroying the thing. I made the mistake of cutting the phone end off prior to plugging it into the computer. When I plugged in the USB connection wasn’t even recognized by the computer (no signal effect or notification that a USB device was plugged-in thus it was $20 down the drain. In view of the fact that, I’d by now chopped it, it couldn’t be sent back. So, moral of the tale – check the cable before you cut it, and be precise once you do.

This cable is a Nokia cable and did sync with my Nokia 6103. The low-cost versions do not. While pleased that it worked I returned it in view of the fact that it would not stay tight in my phone. They quickly refunded my buy price without complaint.

The problem: all the phone numbers in the Nokia 6103 defaulting to storing in the phone, rather than in the SIM card. Of course, we did not find out this until the show on the phone cracked and the menu show stayed solid black (not excellent – you need to see the menu to do nearly everything, including recover saved phone numbers)! So, thinking we were smart we got a replacement phone and simply went the SIM card from the broken phone to a replacement phone. Yes, the new phone worked, but The Horror! All the stored phone numbers were lost!
The solution: this cable.
We downloaded the Nokia PC suite software from Nokia’s web site, then plugged in the phone using this cable to the PC, and “voila”! We could browse folders on the phone and copy out all the saved numbers to the PC, and then, go them to the new phone.
The only “trick” in the process was learning that you needed the SIM card in the Nokia phone for the PC to be able to see the phone contents. Once we figured that out, we simply went files onto the PC from the broken phone, then unplugged it, then went the SIM card from the broken to the replacement phone, then plugged it in, then transferred the files onto the new phone.
This cable saved the day!
