Acer Betouch E110: Covers All Grounds

Taiwanese computer manufacturer and mobile phone contender Acer may not have much reputation in terms of their mobile phone lines but they have been a worthy contender in the computer industry for more than three decades.

Their entries at this year’s Mobile Phone Congress are varied, to say the least and seem to be aimed at the diversity of the mobile phone market. Their Acer Liquid e is their high-end Android-based phone while the Acer neoTouch P400 is their WinMo phone line for young professionals. For persons who are looking for an entry level Android OS smart phone though, the Acer beTouch E110 would be the perfect fit.

Style on a Budget

While the specs are on the low-end of the spectrum, the E110 does have a particular appeal for persons who are looking for a phone for their kids or their older relatives who need an entry level phone. The neoTouch E110 have a pleasing curve to its edges, giving it a fun and approachable design.

Measuring at 103.5 mm high and 54 mm wide with a 13.4 mm thickness, it is slim enough to hold for long email or web surfing sessions. The Android OS mobile phone is also lightweight with a weight of only 105 g so it fits the bill for both ends of the age market.

Like most smart phones, Acer did a excellent job making the boundary pretty. It does have some subtle eye candy such as a blurring background when the main menu is launched.  For color conscious users, there is a choice between classic Black and slick-looking Dark Blue.

Touch and Go

The beTouch E110 is a slim but sturdy built phone. It has a bright 71 mm (2.8 inches) touch screen. Specifically, it is a TFT resistive touch screen that is competent of showing up to 256 thousand colors with a 240 x 320 pixel resolution, decent enough for a starter phone. In view of the fact that it is resistive, there is no multi touch support, but a stylus can be used if ideal, much like older smart phones.

The touch screen is sensitive enough not to cause annoyances while on use. It also has a nifty 5-way navigation key for shortcut access to chosen applications. The virtual keyboard has a traditional extrapolative text input built-in. Acer also included three preset virtual keyboard settings so users can choose from a compact virtual keyboard to the full range QWERTY virtual keyboard.

Applications to Make Life Simple

The E110 does a stellar job in simplifying connectivity through the use of its built-in Facebook and Twidroid apps. Its other preinstalled apps were also made to facilitate simple updates onto social network sites.

Spinlets is one such attention. This allows one to be able to stream and listen to major music marks and on-demand song whenever, wherever. It has the ability to share music files any as posts on social networking sites such as Facebook or send them to friends and family via email.

An avatar program was also included by Acer. The Acer UrFooz allows its users to generate a virtual 2D lookalike and post this to innumerable social networking sites as part of a profile.

The Acer beTouch E110 seems to be geared towards the extreme ends of the market. It is intended any for kids looking for a budget smart phone to Tweet with or for older broadcast who would rather use a linear, practical smart phone. The Internet Buddy That Packs A Punch: Acer Betouch E110

The Mobile World Congress this year is chock full of both Google Android OS mobile phones and devices running on the Windows Mobile platform. Acer has done a excellent job satisfying the cravings of both crowds with their 2010 team of Google Android and WinMo operating system mobile phones. On the Windows Mobile side, we have the Acer neoTouch P300 and neoTouch P400. Devices running the Small Green Robot’s OS are the Acer Liquid e, the Acer beTouch E110 and the beTouch E400.

Cupcakes for Everyone

Considering that the beTouch E110 is an entry level mobile phone, the Cupcake is a stable operating system to rely on. It does get the job done for new smart phone users but with the release of Éclair platform devices, mobile phone enthusiasts would most probably have to go for another phone.

The E110 has decent specs for internet browsing and social networking widget use though, which is what the phone was designed to do. It runs on a ST Ericsson PNX6715 416 MHz processor and has GSM 2G, HSDPA 3G and EDGE connectivity. Although the smart phone is missing WLAN and Infrared support, it does come equipped with a Bluetooth version 2.0 with A2DP feature.

A 256 MB RAM, 256 MB ROM internal memory is a defaulting but it can be expanded through the use of a micro SD. The beTouch E110 has a 3.5 mm audio jack and it comes equipped with a ordinary FM radio. A 3.15 megapixel camera that has a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution is thrown into the mix which is perfect for offhand persona snapping and also for online persona sharing.

Connecting You to the World

Despite the lack of Wi-Fi support, the E110 was intended for internet browsing and it does this easily with the five available home screens. Just like in other mobile phones, widgets can fill up each of the five home screens to instantly launch any pet attention or web page with a simple tap of the widget icon. The real internet browser is basic and simple. Searching for a particular website, zooming in on content as well as bookmarking a pet site is done with a just a few taps on the screen.

Applications Galore

Acer’s E110 lets its users keep track of Facebook and Twitter posts with built-in Facebook and Twidroid apps. Acer Spinlets, a compact online radio app is also preinstalled. This allows users to stream music from major music marks on demand and share selected songs to their fiscal statement on social networking sites or through email.

The Acer Urfooz lets users start their own virtual avatar with an appended profile and post them to social networks. The character creation boundary works much like traditional avatar services wherein the user has access to different facial features, hairstyles and clothes to suit their personality.

The Acer beTouch E110 plays its role very well as an internet buddy for the masses. While it is a total no-no for tech junkies, this phone may be a nice gift for junior or for the older generation who are looking for a smart phone with a no-nonsense approach to functionality.
