A Review Of The Samsung B3410

The Samsung B3410 is an attractive mobile phone pitched at consumers who like to keep in touch via sms text messaging or social networking sites due to the design of the handset and the fact that it incorporates a physical slide out qwerty keypad.

The B3410 measures a honestly ordinary 103 x 53 x 15.9mm and weighs 114g. First impressions of the unit are excellent. The phone is stylish and compact and as with the majority of Samsung designs it is evident that a lot of thought has gone into the overall look of the device. The front of the phone looks very minimal with a 2.6″ screen dominating proceedings, situated beneath this screen are three fixed, slim buttons. The 2.6 inch TFT screen is of a touchscreen variety and displays a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. The screen incorporates Samsung’s TouchWiz user boundary which allows users to easily drag and drop widgets around the screen. A physical qwerty keypad slides out from beneath the screen, useful for persons who do use a lot of text messages. When in use this keyboard does make using the B3410 feel much more like a laptop or pc experience. Most messaging services are covered including MMS, EMail, Instant messaging and SMS.

The Samsung B3410 does boast quite a few multi media features. The integrated music player handles the majority of audio file formats. This is backed up by a built in FM radio tuner if you fancied tuning into local radio rather than listen to your own music. The media player also supports the playback of MP4 video files. Slightly disappointing is the 2 Megapixel camera, substantially less than the majority of phones available. The camera is simple to use and adequate for day to day capturing of the moment, but that is about as far as it goes. This does but back up the fact that the B3410 is intended to be a fun phone at the lower end of the cost spectrum, not one over laden with technology thus pushing the price up.  In terms of connectivity perhaps the most glaring omission from Samsung is the lack of 3G, HSDPA and broadband. The inclusion of EDGE technology does mean that internet browsing on sites specifically designed for mobile web is fine. Bluetooth 2.1 is also included allowing simple transfer between well-matched devices.

All in all the Samsung B3410 does exactly what it sets out to do. The obvious appeal of this handset is its keypad which is a huge plus for persons who like to message. It is an affordable phone which although missing in some areas, makes up for it with a excellent quality clear screen and a clean compact design.

The Samsung B3410 and the Alcatel 708 are available now.

Mobile Phone Shootout – the Sony Ericsson C905 Vs the Samsung I8510 Innov8

Mobile phones with 5 megapixels are SOOO 2007, in view of the fact that during 2008, to a fantastic degree be seeing mobile phones that have 8 megapixel cameras integrated into their DNA. Starting the ball rolling are two huge competitors, the Sony Ericsson C905 and the Samsung i8510 INNOV8.

Sony Ericsson C905 – Cyber-Shot perfection

Unveiled during July, the Sony Ericsson C905 is the very 8 megapixel mobile phone announced in Britain. And what an awesome handset it is, as it isn’t just about the 8 megapixels, the reason being that it’s also a Cyber-Shot phone. That tells us a few facts: 1/ the Sony Ericsson C905 will be frighteningly powerful; 2/ the photos from it will be excellent enough to punch a hole through time; 3/ no other camera mobile phones will even come close to it (hmmm, really? Well, to a fantastic degree see about that, in a second). Sony Ericsson have genuinely made a masterpiece here, with a sliding form factor giving this mobile beauty an exceedingly sexy feel to it. In addition to the looks, you have THAT list of incredible features, kicking off with that incredible 8 megapixel camera, quickly followed by a superb media player, integrated GPS, HSDPA and WiFi.

But… there’s a touch the Sony Ericsson C905 isn’t. In malevolence of that long list of features, it ISN’T a smart phone. If we’re going to find an 8 megapixel smart phone, we need to look somewhere else.

Samsung i8510 INNOV8 – The smart contender

Really, we look at this, the Samsung i8510 INNOV8, the next 8 megapixel mobile phone destined for the UK. Except this baby IS a smart phone. So, it has a brilliant 8 megapixel camera, media player, blisteringly quick web, and suchlike, but the handset’s built on Symbian Series 60, the same as Nokia’s range of ’smart’ mobile phones. THAT means that on top of the ordinary software and applications you get with this mobile phone, you can install loads more. In other words, it’ll let you, essentially, install any extra software you can reckon of (and I’ll bet that if you can visualise a function you want from your mobile phone, someone will have written a program to do it!) The Samsung i8510 is, in other words, a stunning god of a phone.

The question is, though, which is the better mobile phone: Sony Ericsson or Samsung?

Samsung vs Sony Ericsson – who will win?

Consider it this way… things were looking rosy for the Sony Ericsson, until the gorgeous Samsung turned up, basically because both of these mobile phones share an nearly identical 8 megapixel camera module, so the picture quality from both will be, for all intents and purposes, the same. That’s not excellent for Sony Ericsson but it is for Samsung, in view of the fact that the i8510 hammers the C905 on other specs. A ‘feature phone’, a mobile phone that’s, basically, a normal phone with bits glued on, just can’t best a smart phone, one destined and made to have more power, even in the box. That’s why, if you check out these mobile phones next to each other… well, I don’t like to say this (I’m a Sony Ericsson nut), but the Samsung i8510 gives the Sony Ericsson C905 a proper kicking!

Breaking Windows – Sony Ericsson and Samsung Windows Mobile Phones Put to the Test

In the world of smartphones, it’s not unfair to say that Windows Mobile is one of the premier operating systems that mobile phones can be built around. There are two huge contenders for the title of best Windows Mobile phone, at the minute: the Sony Ericsson X1 and the Samsung i900 Omnia. But which one is best? Let’s place them to the test and find out!

Samsung i900 Omnia – Windows Mobile for the masses

Announced a couple of days before Apple launched the iPhone 3G (hmm, do I spot a bit of attention-grabbing), the Samsung i900 Omnia is a perfectly powerful, incredibly excellent-looking mobile phone. Sitting within a sleek, metal bombard, it’s following the pattern of an increasing number of mobile phones, and stripping down the number of keys, focusing instead on just a touchscreen boundary. Also, like an increasing number of mobile phones, Samsung have taken Windows Mobile, and place their own boundary on top of it, making the insides look as excellent as the outside (not literally, obviously. If you take a Samsung i900 Omnia away from each other, you’ll find cables and circuit boards, which aren’t noted for being sexy). Not only has it got a slick boundary, but the hardware features are spot on, with 5 megapixel camera, HSDPA, and GPS. It’s honest to say the Samsung i900 Omnia is one of the most powerful mobile phones going.

Sony Ericsson X1 – the first of a new breed

The Sony Ericsson X1 is a mobile phone of firsts, in more than one way. For one thing, it’s the first phone in Sony Ericsson’s new Xperia range of mobile phones. For another, it’s the first EVER Sony Ericsson mobile phone to be built around Windows Mobile (with the nearly obligatory personalised boundary on top). Finally, it’s first mobile phone (not just from Sony Ericsson, from anyone), to feature the innovative ‘arc slider’ design. What’s that? Well, when you slide out the screen, to unveil the QWERTY keyboard, it doesn’t slide in a honest line, but instead, it arcs slightly upwards, angling the screen so you can see it more easily, while you’re typing. Massive kudos go to Sony Ericsson for that, in view of the fact that it’s such a useful, gifted feature, I genuinely can’t believe we’ve never seen it on any other mobile phones before now. In terms of hardware on the Sony Ericsson X1, you get a 3 megapixel camera, HSDPA and WiFi, GPS and that aforementioned QWERTY keyboard, all wrapped up in a gorgeous (and I mean properly gorgeous) metal body.

Sony Ericsson or Samsung – which should YOU buy?

So, when it comes down to it, which of these two super-powered mobile phones should you drop your cash for? Should you go for the sleek, slim Samsung, or should you go for the more functional, but equally sexy Sony Ericsson? If you compare the two mobile phones, some conclusions should become apparent. For example, take the cameras in both mobile phones. The Samsung plainly wins that fight, as it has a much privileged res camera than the Sony Ericsson. But, after the camera, the Sony Ericsson REALLY comes into its own. The simple fact that the Sony Ericsson X1 has a QWERTY keyboard is a massive plus point over the Samsung, even if the Samsung is the slimmer of the two mobile phones. The keyboard adds that much more ease of use, that it’s basically an essential feature. Finally, there are two areas that the Sony Ericsson absolutely canes the Samsung in. First, the speed. The Sony Ericsson X1 appears one of the fastest, smoothest Windows Mobile phones I’ve ever seen, and although the Samsung is excellent, it’s just not quite AS excellent. Finally, there’s the screen. The Samsung has a slightly better one, but the Sony Ericsson has FOUR times the screen resolution, completely dwarfing the Samsung. And for that reason, of these two gorgeous mobile phones, the Sony Ericsson X1 is the absolute, and outright winner!
