GPS Navigation Systems have come a long way
Gps systems have come a long way in view of the fact that they were first designed for the US millitary. The first signal from NAVSTAR 1 was received on Feb. 22, 1978. NAVSTAR 1 was launched from Vandenberg Air Break down Base in California and was the first of 24 satellites that make up the Comprehensive Positioning System (GPS). The first generation of satellites that make up the Comprehensive Positioning Systems 24 satellites were launched between Feb. 22, 1978 and Oct. 9, 1985. In view of the fact that it First became operational the Comprehensive Positioning Systems has revolutionized the way America goes to war and provides a GPS system in which the world relies on for precise navigation.
The Comprehensive Positioning System’s constellation of orbiting satellites is managed by the United States Air Break down 50th Space Wing. The unit is the host wing at Schriever Air Break down Base, located in east Colorado Springs, Colorado. They are responsible for tracking and maintaining the command and control, warning, navigational, and communications satellites for Air Break down Space Command as well as the Comprehensive Positioning System satellites. Full Operational Capability was declared by NAVSTAR in April 1995 (NAVSTAR is an acronym for NAVigation Satellite Timing and Ranging, and is the official U.S. Regime name given to the GPS satellite system).
The US regime contracted the Comprehensive Positioning System available for civilian use in the late 1980s and with no subscription fees or setup charges to use the GPS system the civilian GPS market exploded, especially in the last decade. A new generation of sophisticated GPS satellites are replacing the older satellites and there are now 34 GPS satellites in orbit that provide combat capability for military applications and aircraft navigation aids. Civilian applications contain ATM’s, bank and stock market transactions as well as power grid management. Currently 31 of the 34 GPS satellites in orbit transmit navigation and timing signals to civilian and military users around the world.
Gps for civilian use
The civilian GPS system wasn’t everlastingly as it is today and the US military is still keeping the most accurate Comprehensive Positioning Systems available classified for national security. But GPS upgrades for two new civilian signals to enhanced user accuracy and reliability, particularly with respect to aviation safety were plotted in 1998. Then on May 2, 2000 “Selective Availability” was discontinued as a result of the 1996 executive order, allowing users to hear a non-degraded GPS signal globally, and in 2004 QUALCOMM announced the successful tests of helped GPS for mobile phones that led the way for the GPS aided cell phones that are widely used today.
In 2005, the first third generation GPS satellite was launched and started transmitting a second civilian signal for enhanced user performance. Then in September of 2007 the Air Break down completed a four-phase transition of the Comprehensive Positioning Systems ground segment to it’s new Architecture Evolution Plot. The ground segment’s provide command and control of the satellites and generates the navigation message for satellites to broadcast to the users GPS device to calculate their earth’s position. The new Gps satellites contain new high-powered, anti-jam military-code, along with other accuracy, reliability, and data integrity improvements for both civil and military users. This modernized version of the world’s greatest free helpfulness was designed to ensure the US has the most precise and secure positioning, navigation and timing capability through 2030.
Europe and Russia develop their own GPS
In 2004 the United States signed an agreement with the European Community establishing cooperation with Europe’s plotted Galileo system. Galileo is a comprehensive navigation satellite system (GNSS) that is currently being built by the European Union and is separate from but complimentary to the United States Comprehensive Positioning System. The European Union’s Galileo system should be operational by 2013. The European Community’s political aim is to provide an self-determining GPS system that the European nations can rely on in times of war or political disagreement, because both Russia or the USA could disable use of their national systems by others (through encryption).
The Russian GPS system GLONASS is a radio-based satellite navigation system that was developed by the former Soviet Union and now operated for the Russian regime by the Russian Space Forces. Like the European GPS system the Russian GPS system also functions separate from but is complimentary to the United States Comprehensive Positioning System. Russia started launching satellites for their GPS system into space on October 12, 1982 and was completed in 1995. The system rapidly fell into disrepair fallowing the end of the Russian economy but in 2001 the Russian regime started restoring the system with hopes of restoring comprehensive coverage by the end of 2009.
GPS Systems today
Depending on the GPS unit a GPS receiver only needs a signal from 3-4 satellites to calculate the units position and will work in any weather conditions, anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day. There are no subscription fees or set up fees like with a cell phone to operate GPS receivers and although some GPS receivers have extra features like real time traffic updates that will have a monthly charge, some GPS receivers like Garmins Nuvi “T” series come with free live traffic for the life of the unit. Today’s GPS is extremely accurate thanks to their parallel multi-channel design. Garmin’s 12 parallel channel receivers are very quick to lock onto satellites when first turned on and they maintain a strong lock even in dense foliage or city’s with tall buildings because they continuously track signals from up to 12 satellites at any given time. Even if a 12 parallel channel GPS receiver loses signals from 8 satellites at once it will still function properly.
WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) was developed by the Federal Aviation Administration to augment the Comprehensive Positioning System to improve its accuracy, integrity, and availability. WAAS was originally intended to enable aircraft to rely on GPS for all phases of running away, including the precision approach to airport’s within its coverage area. All though originally intended for aviation most GPS receivers today are WAAS-enabled including automotive, boating chartplotters and hand-held units. WAAS uses a network of ground based reference stations, in North America and Hawaii, to measure small variations in the GPS satellites’ signals. Measurements from these reference stations are routed to master stations and then they send correction messages to geostationary WAAS satellites. Persons satellites then broadcast the correction messages back to Earth, where WAAS-enabled GPS receivers use the correction data while computing their positions to improve accuracy. WAAS enabled GPS receivers are accurate to within 3 meters and that make them the most accurate GPS receivers for civilian use on the market today. In fact a WAAS-enabled GPS receiver can even give you directions right down to the lane your car is roving in (as long as the mapping program supports “lane help” directions) and With no additional equipment or fees required to take advantage of WAAS-enabled GPS receivers they are becoming as ordinary as cell phone’s.

New and Used Telephone Systems
Telephone systems are the backbone of any business household. There are many reputed manufacturers as suppliers of high quality telephone systems. Panasonic, Samsung, Siemens, AVAYA, Commander, Alcatel, LG, NEG, Aristel, Ericsson, Fujitsu, Omni, Exicom and other manufacturers had been supplying new telephone systems all over the world for several decades. Still, the choice whether to use new telephone systems or used telephone systems will depend on the specific needs and requirements of the business household.
New telephone systems are supplied by the above reputed telephone system manufacturers with fixed warranty, though the warranty may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and from model to model. On the other hand, used telephone systems may not carry any warranty. Therefore, when a choice is taken to buy used telephone system, the warranty part should be questioned and a specific commitment obtained from the supplier. If properly handled, used telephone systems can save extensive amount of money. On the other hand, if a incorrect supplier is selected, it can lead to unwanted frustration due to frequent equipment failure and may be much more costlier than a new telephone system in the long run.
While purchasing a used telephone system, the features, expandability and reliability should be carefully considered. Cost should not be the sole criteria. By spending some extra money, a excellent used telephone system that does easily fail can be bought. The question whether the supplier will be able to install and maintain the system should be gone into. Any dealer who cannot install and maintain but only supply the equipments should be avoided. Normally, buying used telephone systems from one supplier and engaging another wiring and cable company for the installation is not a wise choice.
Another factor that will need to be checked is how ancient are the used telephone systems and the phones. It should be ensured that the used telephone system and the phones had been properly refurbished and thoroughly tested by the supplier. The supplier or the dealer should also be able to supply phones and required spare parts in case there is such a need in possibility. The supplier should provide a written warranty for all the hardware at least for one year. The used telephone system should have the ordinary communication capabilities like automatic call distribution, call forwarding, full-feature voice mail, extension dialing, VoIP support, etc. If all these factors are checked and the system is bought, it will be as excellent as a new telephone system.
But, the above option of buying used telephone systems may be suitable only for small business houses that cannot afford new telephone systems. Used telephone systems that had been refurbished can never contest new telephone systems. They will lack the quality that a telephone system from Alcatel or Panasonic can provide. If the operations of the company are vital and with lot of outside voice and data communication, only new telephone systems should be bought, irrespective of the cost. This will also ensure scalability in possibility and total reliability.

Panasonic KTS Key Telephone Systems Vs VoIP-IP PBX Phone Systems
What is the difference between a Key Telephone System & a PBX Phone System? With the introduction of VoIP or IP Phone Systems, this ancient-technology question is becoming all the more relevant in your final choice to buy the right phone system today.
I have cut and pasted the following text from a Google search, just to show you a classic example of a technically right explanation for this question that would not only be technical jargon to you, but also throw up a bunch of new questions.
A key system has telephones with manifold buttons that permit the user to directly select the telephone company’s central office phone lines. A key telephone system (KTS) is not a switch.
A confidential branch chat (PBX) allows several trunks (outside lines) from the central office to be shared and the switching for selecting these lines is within the PBX. A PBX is sometimes referred to as a phone switch.
Key systems are usually found in small companies where few features are required. A PBX is usually found in larger companies that need more capabilities.
Was I right?
Questions?
- What is a switch? What is central office?- I didn’t quite know why PBX is a phone switch and the KTS is not a switch?
- Why do I care? All I want is one phone on my desk for all my lines.
- It is fantastic to get lots of features, but I still don’t know what I need and what I don’t.
- I am a small business, so do I have to look out for a Key Telephone System?
- Is the PBX Phone system not for me?
- Is the PBX more pricey?
- Well I don”t want to be wedged with a touch that is having few features, so what do I do?
- What are the features that a Key Telephone System has and the PBX doesn’t?
- I do know somebody who has a business phone system and he says its a PBX… he has a staff of six!! And I am confused! Did he get cheated? or Did he pay too much for a touch he didn’t need?
- Gosh, I can know that there are different makes and models, but now I have to deal with different architectures in phone systems?
- Help!
Ok. Here is our version of the explanation…
And this is really the most vital thing you will ever need to know in today’s market, where there are hundreds of new phone systems with VoIP technology, IP Epabx Systems, IP Phone Systems that are competing with the Panasonic, Nortel, Avaya, NEC, Samsung types.
Just recently during a sales meeting, a prospective client was all in favour of the new VoIP PBX, but it was this KEY difference, (no pun intended!) that made them reject the VoIP PBX and choose the Traditional Key Telephone System from a well established manufacturer.
What was this “key “difference?
Key System Functionality is seen when each business phone or extension connected to your business phone system is able to have a button (called Line or CO Button) dedicated for each Phone Line that you have for calling out i.e. the local telephone company or CO lines.
When you press this Line Button on your phone, you are really connected to one of the CO Lines from your phone company.
Lets say you have subscribed for 4 business telephone lines from your local phone company then you will have Line 1, Line 2, Line 3 and Line 4 Buttons on your business phone.
You are able to pick and choose what ever line you want to dial out. Also if one of the lines is faulty you will really hear a crackling or if it is dead then you will hear nothing except a slight hiss. In small you are able to SEE all your lines coming into the office.
You are also able to see the status when someone in the office is using any of the CO Lines, because the corresponding Line Button will be lit up RED or have a Black Triangle against it (this feature is available in all business phone systems with slight variations.) If you press this Lit up Line Button, it will beep at you and if you have a show, it will show you the current status as LINE BUSY.
Based on my experience in the practical world, KEY Telephone Systems HAVE All and more features than PBX phone systems.
In fact this very feature of Having Line Buttons or Line Presence is a HUGE factor for most small businesses who usually have about 3 to 8 CO Lines and about 3 to 25 phones.
And what is a PBX Telephone System?
In fact, the PBX Telephone System, in the practical sense, does not have the Line Presence feature or CO Line Button feature at all!
Which makes the PBX System a bit inferior when compared to a Key Telephone System. Doesn’t it? Well, take my word..this is right. Key Telephone Systems have all the features you will possibly need, whether you are a huge business or a small business.
It is right, though, that if you are a very very large business , like Microsoft, or GE or AT&T etc. i.e if you need lots and lots of CO Lines than the number of buttons on your business phone, then you would go for a pure PBX Telephone System.
(That doesn’t mean you cannot use a Key Telephone System for large organizations…Key Telephone Systems can be SETUP as PBX systems, but PBX systems CANNOT be setup as Key Telephone Systems.)
How do you setup a Key Telephone System as a PBX?
Very simple. Just remove all Line Buttons from your Key Telephone, and use “9″ on your dial pad to get the first available line to dial out. That’s the exact difference between an IP PBX and the Traditional Phone System. You will not be able to place a line on hold at one phone, and take it on another phone. Simply because you do not have individual line buttons on an IP PBX Phone.
A PBX or Confidential Branch Chat, is a business phone system that doesn’t need the ability to have Line Presence on all its business phones or extensions. Now there are technical differences in how they work, as a switch, etc etc. but when it comes to your understanding, that is the KEY feature.
Both phone systems have the ability to handle manifold lines, manifold conversations, auto-attendant, voice mail boxes, for a wide range of office sizes.
The vital point is that most of the IP PBX Systems or IP Phone Systems or VoIP Phone Systems DO NOT have the Line Presence feature.
And if you reckon that’s vital to you, just like our last client did, then please don’t opt for the IP PBX System! VoIP PBX or IP PBX may not be for everybody.
But if you do need some fantastic features, unlimited voicemail ports, voice-mail to email, unlimited extension capability, menu driven web boundary for programming, call centre features, off-site remote extension included in the base price, then this is the system for you.

Business Phone Systems – An Inevitable Part of Every Organization
Businesses around the world today are quick paced and demand quick access to every single data that is needed. Time has become a very vital factor for a business to succeed. In particular businesses, their success or failure seldom depend entirely on their efficiency in managing their time. A lapse of an opportunity may cause huge monetary losses to organizations. The most vital factor that all these time management issues in organizations point to is the communication platform within the organization.
Need for a communication system
Communication has become an integral part of every organization in view of the fact that most of the companies and organizations have team work as their main strength of development. This is particularly vital for technical companies of the IT and Software industry. Each and every step taken in a product development is communicated between the employees and a failure of the system involved is sure to start huge disorders in and around that company. Therefore, most of the companies would prefer to go for a stable and reliable communications platform that would ensure them a peaceful business.
When it comes to communication within a company the major modes are phone systems and email systems. In view of the fact that the mail systems takes more time and are a bit tedious compared to the phone systems, most workers prefer to go with the end. Within a few years of introduction, Business phone systems have become the most vital part of all huge organizations. There are numerous advantages to implement a phone system within an organization the most vital one being the reduction in cost when compared to using individual telephony processes. Due to this and the ease to communicate within a network, the phone systems have become a huge hit around the world.
Types of Business Phone Systems
There are four major types of business phone systems namely the VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), Key telephone systems, Keyless phone systems (KSU-less) and the PBX (Confidential Branch Chat Phone Systems). The most ideal and the most economical phone system is the VOIP system. This is also the most widely available phone system in the world. The VOIP system, which is used by more than 60% of the comprehensive organizations, uses an IP network to transfer the voice codes. It uses the internet in most of the cases to transmit voices from one end to the other.
Key Telephone systems and Keyless systems use a direct, point to point, dedicated phone line system within the organization. This enables a one on one communication platform within a network at any time. In view of the fact that this is very costly to implement, most of the organization do not prefer to go with this.
Major Business Phone System providers
In view of the fact that the need for business phone systems are everlastingly on the rise, many telecommunication systems have grown to manufacture reliable systems. The comprehensive leaders in the market, but, are a select few who have been in the top batch for a lot of years. They are Toshiba, Lucent & Alcatel, Cisco, Nortel, Comdial etc. Other companies that are growing in this field are Sony, TalkSwitch, Motorola, Samsung etc.

Business Telephone Systems – Selecting an IP Phone System
This article looks at some reasons to consider an IP phone system for business requirements. We consider the possible systems that are available today, including PC phone systems. We then take a look at some considerations for small to medium business needs analysis when upgrading to an IP phone system.
One aspect first to be aware of is the advantages IP interfaces provide to a business telephone system. IP relations basically improve the flexibility of a business telephone system, particularly in production with extensions. It is much simpler to go phones within the office. An IP boundary also provides support for easily setting up home offices and making relations when travelling. Also, systems with a built-in Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) feature allow connecting over the Internet without any extra hardware for analog to digital conversion.
Some of the most widespread commercially available systems today are Panasonic, Avaya Partner, Lucent, Merlin, Nortel Norstar, Comdial and Vodavi (from Vertical), NEC, Toshiba, Mitel, and Shoretel phone systems. Not all of these systems support IP interfaces, so we recommend read-through with a trusted vendor for the latest offered features. In addition to a “traditional” phone system, any PC or computer can be used as an IP phone system with downloadable free software. Keep in mind that “free” systems will require a much privileged level of expertise on your staff (or from your local provider).
What is the method to most effectively choose from amongst these available business telephone systems? Really, most any of these systems would be an adequate pick for the average small business. If you by now have a business telephone system, then you can make a list of vital features that must not be lost, should you select a different manufacturer. And for some, hiring a professional to perform a detailed needs assessment would be in order. But for most, the key selection criterion will be finding a excellent local dealer who can adequately support your business needs.
Furthermore, bear in mind that routing your voice traffic over the Internet might necessitate an upgrade of the company’s Internet connection, in order to support voice as well as data. Integrated voice/data services are useful for this, particularly if supplied with a Quality of Service (QOS) attribute, which effectively prioritizes voice traffic over less vital data traffic. Thus when employees are downloading large files or watching online videos, business telephone quality will not be affected.
If the business needs a very reliable phone service, then you should consider a T1 connection, which is delivered with a Service Level Agreement (SLA), to minimize downtime. In view of the fact that T1 lines have reduced significantly in price from hardly a few years ago, when the average monthly cost was over $1000 to now often under $300, a T1 has become a much more reasonable solution. The options and number of vendors supplying T1 services have also increased dramatically in recent years. A telecommunications broker can help with selecting the best T1 service provider according to your needs.
